At Our Next Meeting
Friday, Oct. 17, 2008

On Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, the O. C. Mayors’ Assn. will hold a business meeting as part of the 2008 State of the Bay Conference beginning at 8:30 AM at Georgian Court University.

The Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program (BBNEP) will host the 2008 State of the Bay Conference Oct. 16 and 17. Co-sponsors include: The N.J. Dept. of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), the U.S. Geological Survey, Rutgers Univ., the Urban Coast Institute of Monmouth Univ., Montclair State Univ., and, Georgian Court Univ.

The meeting will focus on identifying the current challenges to the Barnegat Bay ecosystem and generating solutions.

Ocean County mayors are strongly encouraged to attend both days; however, the agenda for Oct. 17 has been specifically created with O.C. Mayors in mind. This will be an opportunity to weigh-in on the previous day’s events and discuss with top-level NJDEP resource managers how efforts to restore and protect the bay impact your municipality.

Speakers include Freeholder Dir. Joseph Vicari and County Exec. Steven Levy of Suffolk County, N.Y. where they have passed county-level fertilizer restrictions. Mr. Levy has been invited to discuss how that policy works. Also, after breakfast, NJDEP representatives will  hold a Q&A session on legislation, regulation, and the permitting process.

Mayors unable to should send a representative, perhaps a deputy mayor or municipal administrator. The BBNEP is working to attract media to this event. Breakfast will be provided by the BBNEP.

LIMITED SEATING CAPACITY of 50. Kindly RSVP no later than Friday, October 10, 2008 by contacting April at the Borough of Island Heights, telephone (732) 506-6659, fax (732) 506-9085, or email (please indicate number of attendees, and names if possible).
