At Our October Meeting

Dr. Jon Larson, President, Ocean County College, and Cindy Randazzo, Director, New Jersey Office of Local Government Assistance, breakfast with the mayors.

At our October meeting, Dr. Larson brought the mayors up to date on Ocean County College news describing an ambitious plan to develop distant learning capabilities at the school. The project would enable OCC to offer courses over the Internet that would not require classroom attendance. Students would see streaming video on their computers and submit coursework over the Internet. OCC would be able to accept distant learning students from virtually anywhere in the world, which Dr. Larson said might double or even triple current enrollment with paying students.

Cindy Randazzo noted efforts to clean up Barnegat Bay and stressed the Christy administration’s environmental efforts. She urged the mayors to email or call her regarding problems with the state. For their part, two of the mayors said that she has been a tremendous help. There ensued a discussion of application fees the state Department of Environmental Protection charges municipalities after which the mayors passed a resolution asking that the state waive such fees or at least lower them. You will find the resolution here.
