New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District
Tom MacArthur, U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, outlined five priorities of the congressional majority as discussed at a recent Republican retreat he attended. The first, he said, is the economy, which he explained involves taxes, government debt, and infrastructure. The second is security with an emphasis on destroying ISIS. Third, he said, is health care. Fourth is poverty, and fifth is restoring the Constitution. Regionally, Tom stressed the importance of keeping the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst open. And In a message of bi-partisanship, Tom spoke of elevators to the floor of the House of Representatives. One serves the Republican side of the chamber, the other serves the Democratic side, he explained. Tom said he always takes the elevator to the Democratic side because he gets to meet and talk with Democrats. As a result, he said, some have co-sponsored legislation with him and spoken on the House floor on behalf of measures he supported.

Heard in conversation (not from the lectern): Frequent visitor and friend of the OC Mayors’ Association, Cindy Randazzo, recently visited the Middlesex County Borough of Metuchen. With that, Cindy said, she has finally paid a visit to every city, borough, town, township, and village in the state of New Jersey — 565 municipalities in all. Hats off to Cindy. We appreciate her efforts on behalf of the 33 municipalities of Ocean County. Cindy is Director, Office of Local Government Assistance, N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.
