Laura M. Fosselman

Laura presented Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) summary to the Mayors. CRASE was designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training developed by Texas University.

Laura said you should be aware of your surroundings, know your exits, and plan what you would do in an active shooter event. Other elements of the programs included these:

Avoid Get out if you can exit without engaging the shooter. Think about those secondary exits including windows.

Deny Lock and barricade doors.

Defend There are no rules. Get past the denial of the situation/ Get angry. It’s you or the shooter.

Laura also discussed church planning and security.

The Ocean County Mayors’ Association has been found tax exempt by the IRS. Donations are deductible. Documentation of this determination and related financial disclosure documents are available for public examination. cir
