Richard T. Dewling, Ph.D., P.E., spoke to the mayors on environmental issues that impact Ocean County — from beach replenishment to solid waste disposal. Dewling, who served for two years as Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection under Gov. Tom Kean, is a principal in the environmental engineering firm Dewling Associates. Dewling said that Ocean County lacks advocates for its environmental issues in key government councils. He urged the mayors to be more assertive as a group to help shape legislation, regulation and policy.
