Welcome back!
Due to technical difficulties, we were unable to post an update in March. So this month, you’ll find two updates — and at a new address on the web. You can now find us at www.ocmayors.net or www.ocmayors-nj.us. Thanks for your patience. And we hope to see you at our next meeting on May 24 when our guest speaker will be Stephanie Bloom, Executive Director, Community Medical Center, Toms River. See details below in the right panel!
Community Services, Inc. of Ocean County
Jim Sigurdson delivered an energetic presentation urging the mayors to get involved in his agency’s efforts, which include the venerable Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels delivers healthy meals to shut-ins, mostly senior citizens unable to prepare food for themselves. Jim explained that his agency is supported by federal funds, private donations, and money from some municipalities. But the largest portion comes from the Ocean County government. He urged mayors to see Meals on Wheels firsthand perhaps by delivering some meals in their towns. Mayor Kennedy of Ocean Gate said he had done just that and was pleased to discover a shut-in borough resident and long-time neighbor he had never met.
